Specialists of SPC Aspect have taken part in creation a new experimental assembly
Scientists from Dubna and France have started again their search for super-heavy elements in the nature.
The synthesis of isotopes of new chemical elements (112-118) and new isotopes of known transuranium elements (105-111), as well as theoretical calculations allowed the specialists of JINR Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions to renew their search for super-heavy elements in the nature.
According to JINR weekly “Dubna: nauka, sodruzhestvo, progress”, for these purposes specialists of LNR and SPC Aspect joined their efforts to develop a new experimental assembly that allows them to efficiently register multiple emission of neutrons of spontaneously fissile super-heavy nuclei. To protect the assembly from space rays, the scientists decided to make measurements in an underground laboratory under the Alps in the middle of the tunnel that runs between France and Italy at the depth that corresponds to a 4000 m sheet of water.
The work is performed in cooperation with the specialists of Nuclear and Mass Spectroscopy Center (France).
The measuring equipment has already been delivered to France and started in a low background laboratory. The experiments start in the early 2005 after the neutron detector has been adjusted.
